Conscious Cairene's Health Tips

Hello Cairienes!

I’m Zeinab Shafei. I’m a health coach studying with the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. Im also a member of the Glow fam. At Glow Im both a health coach and a business/recipe development associate.

But before all that, I started my wellness journey when I was in school constantly learn and reading about food and wellness. I was subscribed to mindbodygreen’s newsletter and I would read their articles on my way to school and just constantly found new recipes to try, and new activities to do. I was lucky enough to really connect what I was eating and what I was doing exercise-wise to how I was feeling from a pretty young age.

Now I get to to do what I love doing the most, which is to help people get on their own wellness journeys too.

I like to share a bit of that on my instagram as well, so you can follow me on here to get a look into what I share.

With everything going on there is no better time to take charge of your health and take care of yourself. And you’ve probably or I hope you’ve heard it a million times over, please stay at home. At this point, it's just down right selfish not to. Do it for everyone around you, the ill immune, the expecting mothers, the elderly, and those who can't afford to stay home or do not even have a home to stay in.

It's important to realise that your lifestyle isn’t just what you eat, it's what you tell yourself, it's what you watch, what you read, and who you surround yourself with so take this time to really reflect on what you do and how you spend your time so that when all this is over you can really make changes that make you overall better.

Here are a few tips to keep you healthy through this time!

  1. There has never been a better time to detox your body from sugar and processed foods. Studies show that refined sugar can suppress four hours after ingesting these foods. By avoiding these foods you’re allowing your immune system to function better.

  2. Make sure to add garlic, onions, ginger, and plenty of spices to your meals. Like oregano, turmeric and rosemary. You can easily add these babies into your soups and vegetable dishes. Garlic and onions offer a wide spectrum of antimicrobial properties.

  3. Eat multiple servings of colourful fruits and vegetables to take in plenty of vitamins, phytonutrients and fibres.

  4. Drink plenty of fluids. And by fluids I don’t mean fizzy drinks! I mean plenty of water and plenty of herbal teas, and soups. Your average vegetable soup should be your best friend these days.

  5. Get your sleep in! We are all staying in and have the time to catch up on our sleep so do it! Unwind and relax yourselves. Remember, this too shall pass.

  6. Stress and anxiety are directly correlated to a weak immune system and increase susceptibility to infections and illnesses. So, switch off your phone for an hour or two, take a warm bath, listen to your favourite music or go for a run in an empty space where you won’t be touching anything or getting too close to anyone. If you can't, just have a home workout! Egypt's favourite yogis and fitness gurus are all posting workouts so use them, including here on Bindu! It's basically a free gym membership.

Stay safe. Love your body, and it'll do you good.

Yours Truly,

The Conscious Cairene
